Those who value hand-crafted metal and have the resources are commissioning unique metal work for their homes. This stairwell railing is like one George F. Martell made for a Wellesley home. As he describes his work, "It's important to be able to keep up with today's technology, for example computer-aided design, while remaining proficient in yesterday's technology, such as forge welding." George began his blacksmithing career as an apprentice to a Medfield smith and then went on to work at a company as a machinist. After a decade, he opened his own shop specializing in custom ironwork.
